50th Founder’s Dinner Chairman’s Message 2015

I have been lucky enough to attend the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation’s Annual Gala Dinner for the past fourteen years. (I happen to know it is fourteen years because my first dinner was just a few days after my second daughter was born). While I have enjoyed all the dinners, I have to say that this year’s dinner was my favorite. There are a lot of reasons including:

  • We had a first class magician as entertainment
  • I had great company at my table
  • The bar finally figured out how to serve a drink in a timely manner.
  • I had the opportunity to meet with some wonderful MG patients and their friends
  • I had a chance to spend another evening with my wife, who looked beautiful in her black dress.

However, the biggest reason it was such a special night was because of our honoree---Jon Melichar. It was great to see how many people really care about Jon. His friends roasted him and it was hilarious. When speaking with Jon’s friends and family, it was impossible not to tell how much they appreciate him. Best of all, it was great to see, feel and hear Jon’s sincerity and humility when he had a chance to get up and thank everyone that night. I have said this many times, but it is worth saying again, being part of the MG Foundation of California is like being part of a family. We are very lucky to have Jon Melichar as part of our family.

As always, this year’s dinner would not be possible without our board of directors. There are many things that must happen behind the scenes to ensure the annual Gala Dinner is coordinated flawlessly. I want to thank our board members and of course, Melissa Pangilinan, for all the time and work they put into ensuring the dinner ran smoothly and was such an enjoyable event. You did a great job. THANK YOU.

If you have not attended our Founder’s Dinner, I strongly encourage you to do so. It is a special night and a great way to learn more about the exceptional individuals associated with the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of California. And frankly, that is what makes our foundation so special—the people.

Best wishes for health and happiness this year and for many years to come.
